DEI, Are You Walking The Walk?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Time to Take Action

When it comes to ending bias and building diversity in the workplace, all talk and no action is no longer tolerated in organizations today. Current conversations regarding systemic racism and inequality have forced employers to consider their diversity and inclusion efforts.

Prospective candidates are now asking businesses about their resolutions regarding DEI. Employers should have more than just a strong verbal response. They should also be able to prove that they have made concerted efforts to take action and put diversity programs in place, or they will no longer attract top talent.

For companies to truly “walk the walk,” they should be aware that it is not just about the number of minorities they hire. It is about the importance of promoting deserving individuals of any race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or gender expression to share power within the company. Allow minorities to become managers, representatives at the top, run conferences, and lead teams. Be willing to share space in your company with every employee and paint that picture with real diversity.

We encourage employers to pay attention to their reviews on digital platforms like LinkedIn or Glassdoor. Potential employees (many from underrepresented groups) often study these reviews to explore the realities of a company’s inner workings.

Actively listen and observe what your organization needs to grow and truly thrive in this modern and diverse business world. Take action, stop the talk and walk the walk.
